Outcome and credential

On completion of all 4 required items, the learner should be able to design a plan to increase efficiencies using AI tools and strengthen governance, and is issued the AI Efficiencies and Governance digital credential through Credly.

Note for curriculum review. The modules below are completion-based; only the capstone is scored, with unlimited attempts at an 80% pass mark, and IBM confirms it is auto-scored. Where this microcredential is used for credit, the capstone should be treated as a learning artifact and assessed locally against a faculty-authored rubric.

What learners actually do

Module 5 4h

Amplifying AI Capabilities

In this module, you’ll compare how AI systems and humans solve problems, discovering where each excels. You’ll explore why AI systems sometimes struggle with simple tasks. You’ll also create a practical checklist to identify when AI can manage tasks independently. This will enable you to make smarter decisions when using AI to do everyday tasks.

Learning objectives

  • Compare the capabilities of AI with human decision making in tasks
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of AI in completing specific tasks based on its limitations
  • Develop criteria for deciding whether a task is suitable for AI

Lessons

  1. AI and human capabilities and limitations
  2. AI effectiveness in task execution
  3. Evaluating AI task suitability
Module 6 4h 10m

Strategic AI Adoption

In this module, you’ll examine how to apply AI automation to everyday tasks, prioritize tasks based on ease and efficiency, and evaluate which tasks are most suitable for AI automation. Understanding where and how AI tools can fully automate tasks helps you make informed decisions about when AI automation is beneficial and necessary

Learning objectives

  • Apply AI automation to everyday tasks
  • Prioritize tasks for AI use based on ease and efficiency
  • Evaluate the suitability of industry tasks for AI automation

Lessons

  1. AI automation
  2. Ease and efficiency criteria for AI automation
  3. AI automation across industries
Module 7 4h 40m

AI Applications in Society

In this module, you’ll explore how AI applications vary across the healthcare, consumer, financial, industrial, technology, and public sectors. Through practical examples and real-world scenarios, you’ll learn how to identify the efficiency gains that AI can provide, evaluate AI effectiveness using systematic criteria, and recognize complex, interdisciplinary challenges that require AI solutions spanning multiple sectors. You’ll also develop the skills to analyze AI applications, assess their real-world impact, and recommend appropriate AI implementations for complex, cross-sector challenges.

Learning objectives

  • Analyze how AI improves efficiency in common tasks across different sectors
  • Evaluate examples of how AI is applied in diverse areas of everyday life
  • Recommend AI tool implementation for examples of interdisciplinary challenges

Lessons

  1. How AI drives efficiency across sectors
  2. AI solutions for societal problems
  3. AI and interdisciplinary challenges
Capstone project 2h 15m

Evaluate AI Use to Increase Efficiencies in Operational Workflows

In this capstone project, you will apply structured evaluation and governance reasoning as you guide MetroFleet Operations in making informed decisions about where AI fits into operational workflows, how much autonomy it should have, and what safeguards are required.

Learning objectives

  • Develop criteria for deciding whether a task is suitable for AI based on capabilities
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of AI in completing specific tasks based on its limitations
  • Prioritize tasks for AI use based on ease and efficiency
  • Evaluate the suitability of industry tasks for AI automation
  • Evaluate examples of how AI is applied in diverse areas of everyday life
  • Recommend AI tool implementation for examples of interdisciplinary challenges

Assessment

  • In a project, you’ll answer questions to demonstrate your ability to design a plan to increase efficiencies using AI tools and strengthen governance. You will receive feedback with the goal of passing the project with a score of 80%. If you do not earn 80% or more on the first try, you can retry the project as many times as you want.
  • Then, you’ll complete a 10-question assessment to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you applied in the project. You must get 80% to pass. You will receive feedback and can retry the assessment if needed.
